A couple of weeks ago I just needed to escape the city. My flat in the 4th floor of a very busy Berlinian street was unbearably hot, it was impossible to close the windows at night, and I was close to throwing a bomb into the loud night café vis-à-vis. (Om Shanti!) I craved nature. The countryside. Peace.
Luckily, Juli and Andreas of Sonne & Mond Yoga invited me to visit them in their old barn in a tiny village in the midst of the Mecklenburgian wheat fields on a yoga weekend retreat.
No Wifi, no Telephone, Back to the Roots
It was lovely! We did a lot of yoga of course. Julia is a Jivamukti yoga teacher, but was also happy to help us with some softer classes as we all seemed to be a bit tired while detoxing from the city.
Reconnect with Nature
I also felt like I needed a communication detox. There was no wifi and we deliberately put off our phones for the most time. In the evenings, we sat around the campfire and enjoyed kirtan and nice, calm talks with like-minded people.
There is no electricity in the house, which makes you go to bed early, so you naturally re-connect with nature’s rhythms: Get up at sunrise, go to bed at dawn.
Speaking of reconnecting with nature: the rain shower and the compost toilets are also experiences that should not be missed out. Today, we tend to take electricity and modern facilities for granted. It’s interesting to renounce these things for a while…
Sounds like you want to go?
For spontaneous city escapists there is still one place left at the retreat this weekend (august 15th – 17th). And there are still a few places for the next retreat (august 29th – 31st).
Costs: 140 € including 4 yoga classes, 2 morning meditations, super yummie healthy vegan breakfast, lunch & dinner, tea and home made cake in the afternoons.
Plus: Andreas offers art classes for a small additional fee in his beautiful studio in the barn. This weekend it’s a painting class!
